Appointment Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2008

The Appointment Certificate Presentation Ceremony 2008 (ACPC 2008) was held in Nan Hua Corps on Tuesday, 24th June 2008 in conjunction with St. John Day celebrations.

The ceremony was held in the school Auditorium; attendees include all 4 cadet levels, teachers-in-charge Mr Nicholas Liu, Ms Yvonne Lim and Ms Veronica Edwards, and of course, Officer Commanding Mr Eric Tan Chin Kuan. The event was also graced by Zone Superintendent Mr Chia Yew Loon.

The ceremony started officially with the arrival of the Officer Commanding and Guest of Honour. The current Chairperson SSgt Low Li Khoon was asked to present her valedictory speech. As is often the case, the moving speech spurred tears in both the speaker and the audience members.

The list of members and their appointment in the new Corps Administrative Committee for the year of 2008-2009 was then announced by the Emcee, and each appointee proceeded up the stage to receive their certificate of appointment personally from OC Mr Eric Tan.

After all the members of the new committee have received their appointment, it was the OC's turn to speak a few words. Mr Eric Tan congratulated the new committee on their new appointments as NCOs, and delivered his expectations of them concerning their newfound responsibilities.

The new committee was then ushered up the stage to lead the new committee in reciting the St. John Pledge. This was symbolic of their taking over, and their resolve in the continual upholding of the high standards set by their predecessors. The pledge was lead by the newly appoint Corps Chairperson Sgt Goh Kheng Yee, and thunderously echoed by her committee members.

It was then time for the Handover Ceremony. SSgt Low returned the St. John flag to the Officer Commanding, who in turn handed it over to Sgt Goh, signifying the transfer of authority and responsibility from one batch of NCOs to another. This solemn ritual marked the completion of the handover.

Officers and cadets alike was then ushered to the Sky Garden, where light refreshments and drinks were available.

Then came the moment where many were waiting for: the 'popping of sparkling juice'. A tradition started by The Alpha Initiative back in 2003, the act symbolises a great new start for both the Committee and the Corps. Each department as well as the squad commanders were provided with a bottle of sparkling juice for the event, and the crowd enjoyed it immensely.

After some more mingling around, the time came to say goodbye. The cadets were dismissed from the Sky Garden, as life in St. John carried on.

A new beginning.
